8 Ways to Wear a Slip Dress With Style
Sep 06, 2022Hi there,
This blog post is for a reader who wrote to me last week seeking advice on how to style her slip dresses. I'm sure you own many dresses in your wardrobe. Here are some ways to transform your dresses and create different looks by pairing them with other complementary wardrobe items.
Are you thinking of getting a slip dress? In my opinion, one of the best investments is to go for one in your neutral shade so you can easily pair your slip dress with other items to create different looks.
For an official business look, you may pair it with a classic blazer for a #ladyboss look. To complete this power look, put on a pair of pumps, carry a shoulder bag, or a hand-carry bag to achieve your polished image. If you like, you may place a belt over your blazer to accentuate your waistline.
If you're into vintage style, consider pairing your slip dress with a vest or a trench coat. This is also a classic look suited for the 9-5. I styled this look with a pair of patterned slip-on to jazz up the look. Noticed the accent colours on the earrings too? Yes, a little splash of colour could elevate your look. Unsure of how to pick your accent colour? You may check out my free seasonal colour swatch and pick your favourite accent hues based on your seasonal colour. Click here to find out more.
Look #3 is another classic work look pairing the slip dress with a coat. This look is made up of a monochromatic colour scheme consisting of mainly brown hues. The trendy shoulder bag and ankle boots help glam up the work look. For a chic look, place rubber bands on the sleeve ends and raise the sleeves a little to reveal your wrists.
Look #4 is a business smart-casual look that is great for work. Style the slip dress with a cardigan and put on a belt outside the cardigan to create a well-defined waistline. For a casual weekend look, you may place the cardigan over your shoulders and knot the sleeves to secure it over your shoulders. You may swap the pumps with a pair of flats or wedges for your casual look.
For Look 5, I've also paired the slip dress with a cardigan, though this is a more casual look than the last one. Depending on the formality and culture of your workplace, this look is only appropriate if your work environment is more casual than formal - a button-down cardigan or top tends to appear more formal.
This outfit put together a versatile classic silk shirt with the slip dress. I've glammed up the look with a pair of interesting heels and a modern-looking bag.
Look #7 is a casual look that put together a denim jacket and the slip dress. Opt for a tote bag and a pair of sneakers to complete this look. This look is great for a stylish weekend or on a relaxing day.
Look #8 combines the slip dress with a scarf with a colour scheme that matches the outfit, offering a relaxing resort look. Style the outfit with a straw bag and flats to complement the look. This look is perfect for you if you're into the chic resort style.
